Duff Kitchel was founded with a large concentration of law firms and expanded rapidly to other professional service businesses. In the 1980s, we assisted an upstream engineering firm with all financial and accounting aspects of purchasing and renovating offshore production facilities. We have since grown to include various professional fields including structural engineering, doctors, energy field services, golf, and other sports professionals. We have worked with a Houston medical practice for over 16 years, providing accounting assistance, tax planning, and tax preparation for the practice and the individual doctors. The business models (and challenges) for most professional services are similar and easy to adapt from one to the other.

Our recent professional service experience includes:

• Assisted engineering consultants operating in multiple states with the development of internal systems to estimate partner taxable income on a quarterly basis.
• Assisted with developing a business and financial plan for a seismic personnel services company. Assisted management with executing numerous aspects of the business plan including arranging property and casualty insurance, initiating the banking relationship, and working with legal counsel to establish the entity.
• Assisted an engineering firm with complex purchase arrangements between multiple partners. Founding partner purchased interests from other minority partners with different purchase arrangements. Further developed an accounting system to maintain cost basis information related to the purchase.
